Chocolate Co-Packing Questions and Answers
What is a chocolate co-packer?
A co-packer, also called a co-manufacturer or contract manufacturer, makes and packs a product for another brand. You own the brand and sell the product. We make it.
What is your minimum order?
A trial run starts at 200 kg per product. Regular production starts at 500 kg per product.
How long does it take?
Timing depends on your product and packaging. Tell us what you're planning and we'll go through the schedule with you on a call.
Who owns the recipe?
You do. When you send us a recipe and we adjust it for production, it stays yours.
Can you develop a recipe for me?
Yes. We can develop a product from your idea under a product development agreement, with a written estimate before we start.
What can you make?
Many different chocolate products in many sizes and shapes: bars, filled bars, bon bons, truffle bars, squares, bark, couverture, drinking chocolate and bagged products.
Can I use my own mold?
Yes. We run customer-owned molds, we have stock molds you can use, and we can help you have a custom mold made.
What certifications do you have?
We're an FDA-registered facility with organic certification through Oregon Tilth, kosher certification through EarthKosher and Fair Trade USA certification. Each product carries only the certifications it qualifies for.
Do you make low-sugar, vegan or dairy-free chocolate?
Yes. We work with alternative sweeteners and milks.
Can you add supplement or functional ingredients?
Yes. You supply the ingredients and we work them into the chocolate at a set amount per piece. We can also prepare the facts panel for your label.
Who supplies the ingredients and packaging?
Either way works. You can buy direct from suppliers we introduce you to, or we can buy for you. We can supply wrapper film and master cases, or run packaging you provide.
Can you design my packaging?
Yes. Our creative team designs wrappers, boxes and brand identities on the dielines our packaging line runs.
Do you ship and fulfill orders?
Yes. Cocoa Pack offers fulfillment from the same building: we store your finished chocolate, ship wholesale pallets, and pick, pack and ship online orders to your customers.
What size of business do you work with?
Small, medium and large businesses.
Where are you located?
2014 SE 9th Ave, Portland, Oregon 97214. We're open every day, 8am to 5pm Pacific Time. Visits are by appointment.
How do I get a quote?
Tell us about your product through the contact form: what you want to make, the size and shape, how many units you expect for a first run, and your packaging. We sign a mutual NDA before you share a recipe.
